The new Logitech Anywhere mouse MX is a travel-sized wireless mouse with Logitech Darkfield Laser Tracking technology that works over surfaces like glass and other highly reflective surfaces.
The black color mouse is smartly designed with a good grip provided by the lightly dimpled, rubberized side sections. Apart from the standard click buttons, the mouse also offers two shortcut keys — within the reach of a user’s thumb — for back and forward functions, as well as an application switcher to switch between applications fast.
Its three-way scroll wheel can be used to scroll up and down as well as to the left and right simply by pressing the wheel to the sides accordingly. The wheel also supports hyper-fast scrolling so you can quickly and freely scroll through a long document.
The default settings of the buttons, shortcut keys and even the scroll wheel can be modified via the bundled SetPoint application. The application can also be set to monitor the battery level and automatically flash a low battery icon in the computer’s taskbar when it’s running low.
The little tiny USB dongle is so small that you don’t need to remove it from your netbook’s USB port when you stuff it in your bag. Plug it in and a stub less than one-quarter of an inch long is all that protrudes from the port.
Logitech calls this dongle as Unifying receiver as it supports up to 6 compatible wireless Logitech keyboards, mice and keypads so that only a single USB dongle is required. This Unifying receiver is a boon to anyone who uses a portable computer as their primary machine, because it enables you to use a full-size mouse and keyboard at home or in the office and easily switch to a portable mouse when you’re on the road without having to reconfigure anything.
The Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX is designed to be a fully-featured portable workhorse. It is small and easily fits into a netbook bag and the device is perfectly symmetrical to accommodate both left and right handed users. There is also a small slot in the battery bay to store the Unifying receiver if you ever need to take it out.
Logitech claims two AA batteries will power the mouse for 15 months when used with its “smart sleep” mode that automatically lowers its energy consumption during long periods of non-use. Another feature Logitech doesn’t advertise is that the mouse can run from a single battery, just in case you run out of juice or can only find one battery.
