Microsoft Notebook Mouse 5000 uses Bluetooth to communicate with a netbook and does not come with or require a special transceiver. You do need to have a Bluetooth transceiver in your netbook, either internally or through a USB dongle. It should work perfectly on any operating system that supports Bluetooth peripherals. Due to it’s simplicity in features, the 5000 will run perfectly the minute it’s paired up. There’s no need to go into elaborate setup.
Accuracy with the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 is very good as it is comes with 1000 dpi and the laser sensor tracks reliably on improvised surfaces such as briefcases, table tops and paper documents. This is a step above optical and roller-ball mice, which have trouble operating smoothly on anything other than traditional mouse-pads.
The ergonomically designed mouse is compact and is comfortable in the hand. Left handed users will be able to use this mouse as well. Unlike the typical two-tone color of most notebook mice from Microsoft, the 5000 has an extremely stylish design that incorporates a pearloid white, black and dark blue color scheme. Recently Microsoft has introduced new colors such as grey to the color range.
In total there are four buttons and a scroll wheel. The scroll wheel is clickable and a button on the left side of the mouse allows you to navigate backwards through web pages or folders you have opened. Microsoft equipped the mouse with an on/off button on the bottom to extend battery life and include a nice black carrying case to protect the mouse on the road.
Power for the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 comes from a pair of included AAA batteries and the mouse features a battery life indicator that glows when it’s time to replace the batteries. Microsoft says you can get three months of use out of one set of batteries.
