The FreeAgent Go is the latest new line of portable hard drives from Seagate and is by far the thinnest. Aside from a sleek design the shape of the Seagate FreeAgent Go looks like a lot of other external drives. The top of the rectangular case has a brushed metal finish while the bottom is covered with a slightly rough material that prevents the drive from sliding around. Seagate has also added an aesthetic touch to the drive with a series of white lights on top to indicate drive activity.
The Seagate FreeAgent Go hard drive doesn’t need an external power source as it can be fully powered through a netbook’s USB port. And you can take advantage of a convenient dock accessory to access file without fumbling with cables – Simply pop your drive into the FreeAgent dock.
The included easy-to-use software helps keep your information safe with an automatic data backup and encryption of your important files and folders. You can also sync content between your work and home computers so you’ll always have your most current versions.
You can take your pick from 4 vibrant colors( black, blue, silver and red) in a variety of capacities from 250GB up to 640GB. However some colors are not available for certain capacities and we’re not sure why since they use the same cases.
Some reviewers have pointed the FreeAgent Go comes with a short USB cable. In our opinion this is not a huge deal and doesn’t affect the performance of the drive, but is just a inconvenience for those who need more length.
Seagate protects the FreeAgent Go hard drives with 5 year limited warranty against factory defects and this is particularly helpful as you never know when a hard drive will fail.
