ASUS has released a new netbook, ASUS Eee PC X101-EU17, based on the latest Atom N435 processor. The new processor is a cheaper version of atom N455 and is more energy efficient version, albeit slightly slower.
Positioning the new netbook as a thin and light model it comes preloaded with the MeeGo Linux operating system. MeeGo is backed by Intel and is optimized for speedy performance on low power systems. Intel claims this will help drive down the cost of a netbook. Intel also provides its own app store.
The new Eee PC X101 is designed for today’s digital lifestyle and the MeeGo brings the internet in a new intuitive interface, integrating Facebook, Twitter and other popular social media sites onto the homepage for quick access.
The chiclet style keyboard has full size keys for easy typing. Multi touch gestures like pinch to zoom and two finger scrolling works like a charm. The battery will last all day thanks to Super Hybrid Engine technology that optimizes the system and give you power when you need it and and save battery life when you don’t.
The netbook has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and supports up to 2GB of RAM. It comes with 8GB SSD drive and ASUS WebStorage to store, share, and access your important data anytime, anywhere.

Upgrading the ASUS Eee PC X101-EU17 Atom N435 10.1-Inch MeeGo Netbook Memory from 1GB to 2GB
Take note of the following;
- The netbook comes with only 1 slot and it is populated by a 1GB memory module
- That means you have to remove the 1GB RAM module to insert the new 2GB RAM module
- Make sure you purchase the right memory module – a 204 pin DDR3 SODIMM notebook memory module (1066MHz)
- Installing the memory is a snap. You just need a tiny Philips screwdriver to remove one screw from back cover. Once unscrewed lift up the door gently. Pop out the old, pop in the new, replace the cover and boot it back up (Follow the steps outlined in easily self upgrade RAM)

When conducting our research into the ASUS Eee PC X101-EU17 netbook we looked at multiple shopping sites where users leave reviews so that we could get feedback from people that have purchased and used this netebook. We found about 24 reviews online for this product and the average user rating is 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Most users were very happy with the purchase. One reviewer said that “it provides a full work machine in a netbook package – it definitely does the job! Most people agree that this netbook feels solid and well built but it is also very light weight, thanks to the solid state-drive.
User found configuring and navigating Meego UI a bit confusing at first, but eventually they got used to the new environment. Couple of users actually counted the boot-up time of Meego and reported that at fifteen seconds it is better than windows on a low powered machine.It was also reported to shut down almost instantly. The quick boot mode leaves the netbook in sleep mode all day to avoid the pain of restarting it.
Some users who had a need to write often appreciated the netbook for its physical keboard unlike using a tablet pc. However, like on all netbooks, the keyboard is a bit small and may take some getting used to but it is responsive and has a nice feel to it.
The thin and light battery resulted in a trade off in the battery life. Couple of users reported between three and four hours out of a charge, a fairly short time compared to heavier Asus netbooks, but not bad compared to many full size notebooks. Users also liked the reasonably small power adapter plug – no unwieldy power brick – which makes it easy to carry around.
There were some negative reviews for this product but the majority of those came from people that either got a defective model or experienced poor customer service. A poor customer service experience from some users cannot be held against the product itself and according to our research the ASUS Eee PC X101-EU17 10.1-Inch netbook seems to be a good quality netbook.
If you don’t need a lot of computing power or storage and don’t use power hungry applications the X101 may be the portable computer you have been looking for. It does a few things well – cheap lightweight connectivity, a workable keyboard, and some basic stand alone applications – and if you want to buy a netbook for the internet get this!

exactly where is the screw that i need to remove to get to the ram pls?
To access the memory you have to remove the door of the memory compartment. The screw may not be obvious, you have to remove the cap that covers the screw. Please watch the last video. At position 2:56, you will see how the door is removed.
