The Gateway LT2802u netbook is equipped with a web camera that have the ability to video chat when the camera is used in conjunction with internet messaging or video calling software. Your netbook should have come with a webcam application from Cyberlink. Please ensure that is installed. If it is not installed you can download it from Gateway’s website.

There are several third party applications available to perform this function. Some examples would be: Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, Skype, etc. Note: These applications may require registering for membership or a subscription in order to use their services. Also, some websites such as Facebook and YouTube have the ability to access your computer’s web camera to allow you to video chat or record video. You will have to grant these websites special permissions to do so.

Once downloaded, follow the application’s recommended procedure for video recording or chat. For further assistance with your chosen application, please contact the maker of that particular application.

If the camera itself is not working properly, you may have a hardware issue that would require further troubleshooting. Please contact Gateway support for further assistance.

I’m trying to get info about how to use the webcam. No info in guide book or on Gateway site. However they want to charge me to tell me how it works which I find asinine since it’s part of the netbook. By the way I’ve had the netbook less than two months. If you could help it would be appreciated.

I highly suggest this netbook pc to everyone one, I’ve been using the MSI Wind U130 for nearly 2 years now. its running a Windows 7 Ultimate. so far I’ve been comparing it to an older PC with better specs.
and I prominently think this netbook is way better than the PC I’ve been comparing!
with its integrated keyboard size, its weight , and screen resolution.

Even thou it is not known to be a gaming netbook but so far.
I’ve gone through many games with it.

I just needed to optimize the graphics and performance of the PC and the games to make it work!

As per license agreement with Microsoft, netbooks running the atom N455 processor must be shipped with 1GB RAM and the Starter edition of Windows 7. Technically there is nothing to stop your from upgrading the RAM from 1GB to 2BG. With 2GB of RAM the atom N455 processor should be able to support the Windows 7 Home Premium. I suspect Toshiba is trying to play safe by being within their license agreement!

Be on the lookout for the type of RAM you need to use.

“NOTE: Two types of DDR memory are used in the Toshiba NB500 and NB505 netbook series. In order to upgrade, you WILL NEED to determine the current memory speed of your Netbook before you buy and replace it:
1) Locate the gray part number label on bottom of machine.
2) If there is a “D3″ in the UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER of the label, then DDR3 memory is installed, upgrade using the following: “PA3856U-1M2G Toshiba DDR3-1066MHz, 2GB Memory” or compatible.
3) All other units, assembled with DDR2 memory, upgrade using the following module: “PA3669U-1M2G, Toshiba DDR2-800MHz, 2GB memory Module” or compatible (cheaper).
Alternate Identification Method (Serial Number):
1) PLL50U-01900C(5B294965K or greater, or a serial number starting with 6B ,7B , 8B) use DDR3.
2) PLL50U-01900C(5B294964K or less, or a serial number starting with 4B,3B , 2B ,1B, ZA, YA, or XA)- use DDR2.”

Of course you can also use RAMs from Crucial or Kingston.

As my Toshiba hard drive is toast, I was told this morning that the NB505-N508OR is not able to handle Windows 7 Home Premium. Specifically, tech support said the processor could not handle Home Premium. I asked that if the RAM or virtual memory were upped, if Home Premium would work and the Toshiba tech said “NO”. As I have 3 of the same machines, obviously this is a great setback.

To access the memory you have to remove the door of the memory compartment. The screw may not be obvious, you have to remove the cap that covers the screw. Please watch the last video. At position 2:56, you will see how the door is removed.
