Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with Integrated TV Tuner 10.1-Inch Netbook

The new Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with Integrated TV Tuner spots a major design overhaul. That includes a battery that no longer sticks out of the bottom of the netbook, a new keyboard layout and textured wrist wrest. Unfortunately one thing that hasn’t received a major update is the touchpad, which features integrated mouse buttons on the touchpad that are tricky to use instead of dedicated left and right buttons.

The less bulging batteries, however hasn’t compromised battery life. According to Dell the included 6-cell battery provides up to 6.3 hours of battery power.

The one special feature of this netbook is the digital TV tuner built internally. It tunes in to over-the-air digital ATSC TV and allows you to watch your favorite TV shows anywhere you want through a mini antenna. With HDMI output, you can connect to a TV and display content stored on your Inspiron Mini 10.

Unlike most netbooks in the market, the Dell Mini 10 with Integrated TV Tuner uses the Z530 version of Intel’s Atom processor instead of the common N270/N280 versions. The primary difference between the two versions is that the Z-series features a chipset with a better graphics processor in it. More important, the Z-series chipset supports the kind of video acceleration technology that makes it possible to play back video reasonably smoothly (something the Atom N-series doesn’t do too well).

It comes preinstalled with the Microsoft Windows Windows 7 Starter operating system, which offers more experienced users an enhanced and innovative experience that incorporates Windows Live features like Windows Live Messenger for instant messaging and Windows Live Mail for consolidated email accounts on your desktop.

The Dell Mini 10 works well for basic Netbook tasks, including Web surfing, basic media viewing, and working on office docs, which is what Netbooks are primarily intended for.

    Upgrading Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with Integrated TV Tuner Memory from 1GB to 2GB

    Take note of the following;

    • The netbook comes with only 1 slot and it is populated by a 1GB memory module
    • That means you have to remove the 1GB RAM module to insert the new 2GB RAM module
    • Make sure you purchase the right memory module – a 200 pin DDR2 SODIMM notebook memory module (667MHz or 800MHz)
    • Installing the memory is a snap. You just need a tiny Philips screwdriver to remove one screw from back cover. Once unscrewed slide the door towards the screw and lift up gently. Pop out the old, pop in the new, replace the cover and boot it back up (Follow the steps outlined in easily self upgrade RAM)

The Dell Inspiron Mini 10 with Integrated TV Tuner can make it a good choice as a netbook for those who need to watch free to air TV on the go.
