Gateway have jumped the Pine Trail bandwagon by introducing the Gateway LT21 netbook featuring the Intel Atom N450 processor to deliver enhanced speed and responsiveness. In addition, the new Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 graphics with 64MB of dedicated video memory and support for Microsoft DirectX 9 provides excellent graphics performance for crisp and clear visuals.
In addition to boosting performance, the new Intel Atom N450 processor requires less power, further contributing to the long battery life. The Gateway LT21 netbook models with the 6-cell Li-ion Extended (5600mAh) battery achieve unparalleled battery uptime of ten hours between charges and models with the standard 6-cell Li-Ion battery (4400mAh) is good for 8 hours.
The new design of the netbook include a larger keyboard that is 93 percent of the size of a full-sized keyboard with an enhanced design and layout that has resulted in larger keys and key pitch for an improved typing experience, especially for touch typists. Also, the 6-cell-batteries were designed to prop the netbook up slightly for a more convenient typing experience.
The Gateway LT21 has a luxurious look with a high-polished finish, rounded edges, silver hinges and engraved metallic logo. Plus, its textured palm rest hides fingerprints and wears much better than glossy-finished palm rests – making it as durable as it is chic.

Upgrading Gateway LT21 Memory from 1GB to 2GB
Take note of the following;
- The netbook comes with only 1 slot and it is populated by a 1GB memory module
- That means you have to remove the 1GB RAM module to insert the new 2GB RAM module
- Make sure you purchase the right memory module – a 200 pin DDR2 SODIMM notebook memory module (667MHz or 800MHz)
- Installing the memory is a snap. You just need a tiny Philips screwdriver to remove one screw from back cover. Once unscrewed slide the door towards the screw and lift up gently. Pop out the old, pop in the new, replace the cover and boot it back up (Follow the steps outlined in easily self upgrade RAM)

This has to be one of the nicest looking netbooks around and has a compelling set of features, looks great, and functions well. Compared to other netbooks in this range, I think the Gateway LT21 comes out ahead of the pack. Overall, for the price, I’d say GO FOR IT if you’re looking for a fully functioning laptop in a small package!
