Lenovo has unveiled an addition to the pine trail netbook models. The Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t is very similarly spec’d to the S3-10 model, but the differentiation between both of them comes from the touchscreen element. The screen of Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t is built with Lenovo NaturalTouch responsive fingertip touch screen technology and can swivel 180 degrees and fold over to transform into a slate oriented tablet PC.
The IdeaPad S10-3t bears a striking resemblance to the Asus T91, which brought transforming tablet screens to the netbook. Lenovo’s effort, however, promises to be better, as its 10.1-inch display which, unlike the T91′s, is capacitive, meaning you needn’t apply pressure with your poking finger to get it to function (fingertip touch screen technology versus pressure touch technology). With the Lenovo NaturalTouch Panel, the S10-3t responds to the lightest of touches, making it fun and easy to use NaturalTouch multimedia touch-optimized applications.
Lenovo’s new IdeaPad S10-3t combine portability, style and industry-leading technologies that will help redefine the netbook category. Boosted by the new Intel Atom N470 1.86Ghz processor and equipped with Intel GMA3150 integrated graphics, up to 2GB of RAM and up to 320GB hard drive, the ideaPad S10-3t offers a rich video and audio experience.
The Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t sports a more traditional keyboard layout with keys that are positioned closer together. As a result of the S10-3t’s narrower dimensions, its palmrest is thinner, which in turn means very limited touchpad real estate and provides an incredibly cramped navigation experience.
Battery life is impressive and Lenovo reckons you’ll see up to 4hrs with the 4-cell pack or up to 10hrs with the optional 8-cell pack.
Upgrading the device is extremely easy. There is a cover on the back held in place by 5 screws, simply unscrew and remove the cover to reveal access to the hard drive, RAM and also a mini PCIE port
Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t comes with Windows 7 Starter edition, unfortunately this version of windows does not include the built in Windows 7 multi-touch features. If you are really interested in using this device as a tablet then you must upgrade to at least Windows 7 Home Premium edition, so bear this extra cost in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase this.

Upgrading Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t Memory from 1GB to 2GB
Take note of the following;
- The netbook comes with only 1 slot and it is populated by a 1GB memory module
- That means you have to remove the 1GB RAM module to insert the new 2GB RAM module
- Make sure you purchase the right memory module – a 200 pin DDR2 SODIMM notebook memory module (667MHz or 800MHz)

Software Included with Lenovo Ideapad S10-3t Netbook
Included on the S10-3t are a suite of touch-specific apps from a launcher called NaturalTouch, including photo browser, media player and e-book/document reader. These are nicely designed for use specifically in tablet mode, with large icons and multitouch gestures such as pinch-to-zoom supported.

The Lenovo S10-3t is a good buy. It serves dual-purpose and will surely surprise your office colleagues and friends when your humble netbook suddenly transforms into a full-pledged tablet PC! It functions as a netbook with full-size keyboard and responsive touch pad. However, if you are really interested in getting the maximum out of the tablet then you must upgrade to at least Windows 7 Home Premium edition, so bear this extra cost in mind when deciding whether or not to purchase this.
