Korean netbook manufacturer Samsung has released a new netbook capable of delivering up to 13.8 hours of battery life with an extended battery, while the standard battery option delivers 7 hours of batter life. This is an impressive feat – if the real battery life is anywhere close to Samsung’s claims, and is achieved through their efficient LED display and “proprietary Enhanced Battery Life (EBL) solutions”.

Aside from marathon battery life, the machine’s specs are pretty standard for a 10-inch netbook: Intel Atom N450 platform, Windows 7 Starter, 1GB of RAM, 250GB hard drive, and 1024×600 resolution screen.

Among the new features is Samsung’s Smart Start, a feature that boots the netbook up within seconds of pressing the power button. A new sleep mode saves data in memory to the hard drive so nothing is lost, even if the netbook shuts down unexpectedly.

It is less than an inch thick and weighs in at just 2.2 pounds and will ship with a choice of 1.66GHz Atom N450 or 1.83GHz Atom N470 processor.

The Samsung N230 netbook is already out on shelves and retails at Amazon for $399.
