Update – Jan 2, 2012: We’ve updated the Top 11.6 to 12.1 inch netbook list to reflect new machines on the market.
The netbook dimensions basically zero in on its screen size as a major factor for many consumers. The most popular size today is a 10.1-inch screen with 1024 by 600 pixel resolution. There are those who find this size of the screen workable. On the other hand, others get a major headache squinting their eyes on a netbook’s screen for more than half an hour. Small screens, small keyboards and underpowered hardware make for a less than stellar Netbook user experience.
The release of Microsoft Windows 7 and dual-core processors is pushing the boundary of the netbook term as many manufacturers begin releasing 11.6″ and 12.1″ netbooks. The general consensus around the industry is that even though 11.6/12.1″ seems a little too large to be a traditional netbook, the name have stuck. The industry is slowing moving to consider anything beyond 12.1″ to be a notebook.
Netbooks are clearly here to stay, and the new models with larger screens and larger keyboards solve two limitation with netbooks – Limited viewing area on the screen and inability to type fast on it without constantly hitting the wrong keys.
We’ve gathered together the top 11.6 to 12.1″ netbooks from the current crop of bestsellers. We also made a note of the average user rating, in many cases the best selling machines also have some of the highest user ratings.
