The Toshiba Mini NB205-N325 is one of the latest additions to the netbook category, long dominated by Asus, Acer and MSI. It has since become a bestseller; not bad for a first time entrant. Various user reviews have touted the Toshiba Mini NB205-N325 as one of the best netbook models ever made. It is being seen as the only formidable competitor to the highly successful Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU17 netbook.
The streamlined design of Toshiba Mini NB205-N325 makes it stand out amongst its contenders. It has a very boxy stylish design with rounded corners that looks and feels sturdy and stable. Measuring 10.4 x 7.6 inches with a height of 1.3 inches the netbook weighs 2.9 pounds. It sports a refreshing change in looks from the common glossy design found on most other netbooks to a very stylish matte casing that would prevent it from acquiring fingerprint markings.
It offers plenty of convenient features like USB Sleep-and-Charge ports that power your gadgets even when the PC is off, a Hard Drive Impact Sensor to help safeguard your data from sudden movement or drops, and international limited warranty coverage so you won’t have to worry when taking it on the road.
As most netbooks in its class the Toshiba Mini NB205 is powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor with 1GB 800MHz DDR2 memory (upgradeable to 2GB). For wireless connectivity, it offers wi-fi (802.11b/g) and Bluetooth 2.1. The port selection on the Toshiba Mini NB205 is pretty basic for a netbook. It includes three USB 2.0 ports, VGA out, Ethernet, microphone and headphone jacks, and a SD/SDHC media card slot. One extra little feature is that one of the three USB ports is outfitted with Toshiba’s sleep-and-charge technology. This enables you to charge your mobile devices (such as cell phone or mp3 player) even when the netbook is turned off or in sleep mode. Very convenient for an individual that travels and wants to charge their mobile devices without powering up the computer.
It has a built-in 0.3 megapixel webcam. The webcam as well as the speaker are located in the bezel. The audio quality from its monaural speaker is mediocre compared to Asus Eee PC 1005HA-PU17 which has stereo speakers.

- That means you have to remove the 1GB RAM module to insert the new 2GB RAM module
- Make sure you purchase the right memory module – a 200 pin DDR2 SODIMM notebook memory module (667MHz or 800MHz)
- Installing the memory is a snap. You just need a tiny Philips screwdriver to remove one screw from back cover. Once unscrewed slide the door towards the screw and lift up gently. Pop out the old, pop in the new, replace the cover and boot it back up (Follow the steps outlined in easily self upgrade RAM)

This netbook offers similar performance to most netbooks, but that shouldn’t be a surprise because all Intel Atom based netbooks have nearly identical performance in terms of actual real world use. However, the Toshiba Mini NB205 has a very professional feel to it and best of all this netbook performs as well as it looks.
